Bio

Hey guys! My name is Sooyong Kwon, and I am currently a first-year at Yale College. I am not required to decide my major until the end of sophomore year, so I am exploring different major options, but my interests generally align with economics, environmental studies, and other classes that teach about inequalities or problems in our society and their potential solutions. Over the summer, I participated in the American Legion Jersey Boys State Program and the LEAD Summer Business Institute at Lehigh University. In high school, I completed the IB Diploma Programme and took part in the Future Business Leaders of America Club as well as the National Honor Society. I was also a three-season athlete. I am a QuestBridge finalist and a U.S. Presidential Scholars Program semifinalist.

I love reading Korean webtoon, as well as manga (I am up to date on most of the mainstream mangas and a few minority ones like One Piece, One Punch Man, Hajime No Ippo, and D.Gray Man). I spent an absurd amount of time on Youtube, usually watching gaming videos, animals, spiders, or Korean reality TV. I started watching the show Shameless with my suitemate; we usually sit in our common-area sofa and binge-watch the show late into the night. I love Emma Watson, Sofia Vergara, Anne Hathaway, and a few more celebrities, and you can occasionally spot my Instagram comments on their posts (“You’re the best” or “I love you”). I like to think I am an activist, and sometimes participate in environmental activities or protests.
